If there is an opportunity to share a photo with a horse in it, I’ll be taking it. I loved being a part of Laura’s country wedding, it was such a relaxed fun morning hanging out with Laura’s girls. I feel so lucky to be able to work here in the Clarence Valley with the most chilled country Brides.

Back in Autumn I had the pleasure of working at The Acre Boomerang Farm for Georgie and Lachlan’s Wedding. It was my first time at the venue nestled in the Gold Coast Hinterland, it was a little bit of country right on the outskirts of the city. Most impressive however, was the Bridal Parlour, our very own hair and makeup studio conveniently located right in the middle of the venue. It was fancy, very cool.

This one was a special one for me. I have known Georgie’s parents since high school, I even photographed their wedding way back in 17mumblemumble, the Wedding Photographer era.
It was such an honour to be asked to be Georgie’s Bridal Makeup Artist. Georgie was the first baby born into our circle of friends and I felt like a proud Mum watching her get all glammed up for her own Wedding Day.
Congratulations Georgie, and to Katie and Dobbo, what a proud moment for you both, you have raised an exceptional, beautiful young lady. Thank you for having me!

My first wedding of the year was the somewhat “tropical” nuptials of Jamie-Lee and Scott. Look, I know the year is far from over, but I’m going to call it – The Award for the Wettest Wedding of the Year goes to………
I’m not sure who ordered a cyclone, but I can guarantee there is no questioning my commitment to my Brides. Cyclonic winds, pouring rain, flooding. My usual five minute drive into town took 30 minutes, driving 40 klms/hour because I couldn’t see shit, trees down over the roads, roads closed due to flooding, detours, it was a little hectic. But Jamie-Lee was smart and booked an A+ collection of vendors who all came together to make all of her Wedding Dreams come true!

Jamie-Lee’s Review: “Nicky is absolutely amazing! Her bubbly personality along with her amazing work. I was super impressed with the end result. She made me feel like a princess on our special day! I highly recommend Nicky as a makeup artist and can’t thank her enough.”

I love working with my Mother’s of the Bride. They’re often nervous as hell when they hop in my chair because they haven’t had their makeup done since 1996 when Cakey Jo did their makeup using a trowel. My favourite part is when they see themselves all made up and you can instantly see their shoulders relax, the relief, followed by the sudden change in confidence simply because they are looking hot af.

And to my photog colleagues, take the photo with Mum. Take the photo with Dad. These aren’t just images to tick off a “friends and family” list. These will be cherished memories one day. Take the time to create a beautiful memory for our Bride.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting photos of my Brides with their beautiful Mums, demonstrating that when mature face makeup is done right, you can look beautifully youthful. The techniques and products we use on mature faces are different to those with youth on their side, and I’ve seen a lot of inexperienced makeup artists fall into the trap of using the same techniques they would use on a younger face, and they often end up aging our beautiful Mums.

Hopefully the following series of images will demonstrate how amazing our Mums can look.
