Bridal Trials

A little snippet from a recent interview with the guys over at Yamba Weddings. You can check out the entire interview here https://www.yambaweddings.com.au/post/meet-the-supplier-nicky-fletcher-makeup-artist

“Do you think it’s worth doing a trial before the wedding day? Why?

Bridal trials are a great idea for a number of reasons. Firstly, they give you the opportunity to meet your artist. Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists play a huge part on your wedding day; they could potentially be with you for up to 7 hours, so it’s important that you choose someone you are happy to have in your space. It’s also a good opportunity to bounce ideas off your artist if you are unsure of the look you are after. This will save time on the day, and will ensure that you are both on the same page so there are no surprises on your special day. If you are unfamiliar with the artist’s work, it will give you the chance to see if their style is suited to your needs and guarantee that you know exactly what you are going to get. A trial also gives you the chance to see how the makeup is going to hold up over the day as well.”

Emily

So I nearly wasn’t going to share this image, or any from this look, because I am FUSSY AF when it comes to my images, if it aint razor sharp focus/impeccable lighting/good tones, it gets canned. I seriously beat myself up over these images, the makeup was spot on, and Em did an absolute stellar job in front of the lens, and I let the whole team down by not taking 2 minutes to ensure the lighting was correct before snapping away. I knew it was harsh afternoon light before I even started, but I was in a hurry to get Em off to her photoshoot and foolishly thought I may have been able to tinker with the exposure in post. It physically pains me that I stuffed up so royally on such an epic look. Moving on…… #empleasecomeback

Rachel & Brenton

Rachel and Brenton wrapped up the year that was 2020. When Rachel booked me as her MUA I remember thinking, “what kind of wonder woman plans a Wedding a few days before Christmas?” I’m flat out organising Christmas, let alone adding one of life’s biggest occasions into the mix. Then I met Rachel, ridiculously cruisy and super chilled. That’s the kind of person that organises a Wedding right before Christmas.

Hygiene

Look, 2020 was probably the year to talk hygiene, but this is just a quick little post about the difference between hiring a Professionally Trained MUA, and an amateur MUA. The one thing YOUtube videos don’t teach you about makeup is hygiene. I worked with a very talented artist once, but I took one look at her brushes and felt a little cah cah. They looked like that hadn’t actually been cleaned since she brought them, those brushes could have potentially touched a hundred faces without being cleaned or sterilised once. I dunno about you, but I’m good for pink eye thanks.

Clean brushes is one aspect, there are many more aspects that you are taught when you are professionally trained – decanting products, disposable tools, etc #aintnodoubledippin. So don’t be afraid to ask questions about hygiene when booking your MUA.

This beautiful girl came and visited the studio recently for a Makeup Lesson and Photoshoot.

I absolutely loved her Mums feedback – “Thank you so much, such a beautiful thing you offer young girls. Such a confidence boost. So very grateful.”

Lara

The soft, dewy, glowy, bronzed beach skin is all the go at the moment. I took this opportunity to step right out of my comfort zone and try something new. I’ve always used powder products; blush, contour, highlight, etc, as that is what I was trained with, it’s what I know, I’m comfortable with it, confident with it, I know how it works and I know it looks good. I was nervous to give the creams a go, being a perfectionist there aint no room for f’ing it up. Errrmmmmagawd, I LOVE IT! This is essentially why I ask these beautiful creatures out to my studio, try new products, test my skills, grow, evolve. Poor Lara is very used to my colourful language #whoisnt and seeing that crease in between my brow as I reach for the makeup remover… We get there in the end, and I think you’ll agree, this was a win.

What look would you like me to demonstrate next?

This gorgeous girl popped in for a makeup lesson and photoshoot last month. Bree is an aspiring actress and wanted to learn how to do her makeup properly for auditions and was also requiring headshots for her StarNow profile. I absolutely LOVE this transformation, probably one of my favourite yet. Go get em Bree! And don’t forget to mention me in your Oscar speech x

I do have Gift Vouchers available if you are wanting to gift a lesson or photoshoot to someone special.

Bree’s eyes were prepped using @maccosmeticsaustralia Pro Paint Pot in “Layin Low” and created using the @smashboxcosmetics Matte Palette and @maccosmeticsaustralia eyeshadow in shade “Bronze Frost” . @erinbiggcosmetics gel liner on the upper lashline along with @modelrocklashes individual lashes. Happy Easter! I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter long weekend and indulging in all things chocolate. I’m currently sitting somewhere between epic sugar high and uncomfortable nausea. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
