Nicky Fletcher The Makeup Artist

Rae Morris has been a huge influence on my makeup career. She is an incredible educator, she has a way of explaining why we do what we do, that really makes sense to me. Although I have a creative mind, my brain works in quite an analytical way. I need to know how things work, to be able to understand them and therefore apply them. If I can understand in depth what we are trying to achieve with every brush stroke, I can then apply it to any face type. Rather than a generic look for every face. I use a lot of Rae’s techniques and methods in my work because they really make sense to me.

Flashback to circa? #tadpoleeyebrowera where I was helping Rae at the Sydney Beauty Expo. Just stylin around in my “dressy hoodie” like I just rolled out of a Netflix marathon. Rae took a group of us out to dinner that night, some fancy restaurant in Darling Harbour, I was probably still wearing my favourite hoodie. I took a phone call right when the waiter was bringing out all the dishes and missed the bit where he said “don’t eat the green ones”. I ate the green ones and immediately wondered why no one told me to not eat the green ones? Clearly my face was saying what my mouth was unable to, and as I started to sweat blood I looked over at Rae and she was gesturing to the waiter “can you get her a glass of milk please…” I felt like a 3 year old that couldn’t cut up her own sausage. I’d like to point out that tomato sauce is too spicy for me, so you can understand my panic when I just inhaled one of the world’s spiciest chillies. My situation only got worse as that little green chilli decided to burn a hole in every single one of my internal organs. Death by chilli.

Thank you @raemorrismakeup for always sharing your experience, wisdom and milk.
